3 Comedies Set Around New Year’s Celebrations

New Year’s Celebrations are a time for happiness and spending some quality time with our loved ones. To celebrate the airing of Better Days, an Italian comedy about a group of friends who reunite to celebrate New Year’s Eve, we have selected three great movies set around this wonderful time of the year!

Four Rooms

One of the best anthology films of the 1990s, Four Rooms is a production co-directed by established industry names including Quentin Tarantino, Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, and Robert Rodriguez. The film’s stars also include A-list names like Antonio Banderas, Madonna, Tim Roth, and many more.

In the film, Ted is the new bellboy at a beautiful but crumbling hotel; he is not having a good time of it on New Year's Eve, his first night on the job. In one room, a coven of witches is trying to summon the spirit of the goddess Diana. Another room, where Ted was supposed to deliver some ice, turns out to house an angry husband who is holding his bound-and-gagged wife at gunpoint. A third room is taken by a tough-talking gangster and his family. Room number four is where an arrogant film actor is holding a party.

New Year’s Day

An uplifting production to enjoy in the dawn of a new year, this American comedy follows the story of a man returning to his sublet apartment to find the previous tenants, three offbeat young women, still in residence, under the mistaken belief that they have the apartment until the end of New Year's Day.

Starring David Duchovny (the famous Fox Mulder in The X Files), New Year’s Day was entered into the main competition at the 46th Venice International Film Festival.

New Year’s Eve

This production is the second in an unofficial trilogy of romantic comedy films directed by Garry Marshall, set on a one-day holiday and featuring an ensemble cast in a variety of stories. Quite similar to the first in this list in terms of an anthology picture, in New Year’s Eve, the lives of several couples and singles in New York City intertwine over the course of one night to celebrate love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts.

The movie’s cast includes stars like Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Jon Bon Jovi, Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank and Sofia Vergara.
