3 Essential Movies on People Trapped Together

Among aficionados of cult cinema, this is actually a sub-genre which offers numerous plot stories to screenwriters and directors. Being trapped is never nice, but surely these films will entertain you! Celebrating the airing of Suspicion, a Czech thriller about a con man and an old woman trapped in an apartment, we have selected three great films with people facing the same situation.

Exam

A British jewel of the thriller genre, this production was received with praise by the critics despite not being widely distributed worldwide. The movie follows eight candidates competing for a highly desirable corporate job as they are locked together in an exam room and given a final test with just one seemingly simple question. However, it doesn't take long for confusion to ensue and tensions to unravel.

Exam was nominated to a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. The film also won the Independent Feature Award at Santa Barbara Film Fest.

Saw

Considered one of the bloodiest yet intriguing movie sagas, Saw epitomizes everything that can go wrong when people are trapped in confined spaces. In the first installment of the saga, called simply Saw, two strangers awake in a room with no recollection of how they got there, soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.

Identity

One more psychological thriller, this 2003 production was directed by James Mangold from a screenplay by Michael Cooney. Starring John Cusack, Alfred Molina and Ray Liotta, Identity follows the stories of ten strangers who arrive at an isolated hotel and become temporarily cut off from the rest of the world as they are mysteriously killed off one by one. Several events which take place in the hours before the characters' arrival are introduced at key moments in the film using reverse chronology structure.

While the plot is not a direct adaptation of Agatha Christie's 1939 whodunit And Then There Were None, the story draws from the structure of the novel.
