3 Iconic Movies Based on a Novel

Beyond Sleep is based on the novel Nevermore to Sleep by Dutch author Willem Frederik Hermans, here are some of the iconic movies based on a literary piece of work.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)
When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. This timeless classic is based on Wonderful Wizard of Oz, an American children's novel written by author L. Frank Baum.

Forrest Gump (1994)
Slowly speaking, awkwardly annunciating, grammatically flawed, simple-minded Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) sits on a quiet park bench, striking up a one-sided conversation about the story of his life to various people waiting for the bus. He is a man with low IQ, and he recounts the early years of his life when he found himself in the middle of key historical events. Forrest Gump is based on a 1986 novel by Winston Groom.

Schindler's List (1993)
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Schindler's List is the story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist and member of the Nazi party, who tries to save his Jewish employees after witnessing the persecution of Jews in Poland. It is based on the 1982 non-fiction novel Schindler's Ark by Australian novelist Thomas Keneally. Oskar Schindler managed to save about 1,100 Jews from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
