3 Must-Visit Charming Towns in Austria

Celebrating the premiere of the Austrian crime thriller Precipice, in which the population of an entire small town is subject to a murder investigation, we have selected three beautiful and charming towns you should visit in the country.

Dürnstein
Dürnstein is a small town on the Danube River in the Krems-Land district, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the Wachau region and also a well-known wine-growing area. The landscape is characterized by the natural beauty of the ancient vineyards, the pleasant climate and the numerous cultural landmarks.

Alpbach
Alpbach is the ideal resort for winter sports activities such as skiing and winter hiking. Starting from Alpbach three ski lifts help you discover both valleys representing the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau. With its 145 km of groomed runs (109 km fall line) the ski area is one of the biggest ski resorts in the Tyrol. Since 1945, Alpbach has been the venue for the Alpbach European Forum, an annual two-week conference of leading figures from the worlds of science, business, the arts and politics.

Zell am See

Zell am See has been in existence for centuries. Only a market in the 19th century, the town was originally called "Zelle im Pinzgau", probably because it spreads along the shores of Lake Zell and is the indisputable center of the entire region. Skiers and spa-goers will be surprised by this lakeside town just south of Salzburg, which is home to a glacier in addition to 80 miles of mountain slopes. The medieval town center with its Romanesque church and Salzburg residence-style Town Hall is a must-see when visiting the area.
