3 Top Legal Series Anybody Should Miss

What would cinema do without lawyers? In a field built on copyrights and cosmetic surgery, lawyers have done far more than pen the small print in studio contracts or post bail for stars on the way to and from rehab. From the very beginning, lawyers have provided some of the most memorable TV heroes. Celebrating the airing of Conviction, a legal action drama from France, we have selected three legal series anybody should miss.

Alexandre’s Law

Conceived as a three-episode miniseries, Alexandre’s Law is one of the most praised television endeavors undertaken in France in recent years. In this production, Alexandre, a successful lawyer who works by the book, does not get any rest until he is sure justice has triumphed in every case.

Upholding the ideal of having an icon of French acting for the main role, Alexandre’s Law stars the one and only Gérard Jugnot, a four-time César Awards nominee. Valeria Cavalli and Héléna Soubeyrand, who have credits in award-winning productions like The Past and Taken, co-star.

The Good Wife

One of the most famous legal dramas in worldwide television, The Good Wife stars Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick. The series focuses on Florrick, whose husband Peter, the former Cook County, Illinois State Attorney, has been jailed following revelations about notorious political corruption and a sex scandal. After having spent the previous 13 years as a stay-at-home mother, Alicia returns to the workforce as a litigator to provide for her two children.

The Good Wife won numerous prestigious awards, including five Emmys and the 2014 Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. The performances of the show's cast have been particularly recognized, with Julianna Margulies' role as Alicia Florrick receiving significant praise.

Law & Order

A world-renowned franchise of TV series, Law & Order has conquered audiences in the five continents. Created by Dick Wolf, the series deals with many aspects of the criminal justice system. Shared people and resources in a common fictional setting are the connecting links between the shows, e.g., Hudson University and the New York Ledger tabloid newspaper. Many supporting characters, such as district attorneys, psychologists, and medical examiners, are also shared among the shows.

As of May 23, 2018, 1,129 original episodes of the Law & Order franchise have aired.
