Portraying a common practice in politics, Barroco tells the dramatic story of a boxer, played by Depardieu, who is bribed to ruin a politician’s candidacy during the election. The production also features in its powerful cast, the outstanding French film star Isabelle Adjani. The film received nine Cesar nominations, and won in the categories of Best Supporting Actress (Marie-France Pisier), Best Cinematography and Best Music.

During an election campaign in Amsterdam, the boxer Samson (Gérard Depardieu) is contracted to create a true scandal: to claim he had a homosexual relationship with one of the candidates. Reluctant, Samson is persuaded by his beautiful lover Laure (Isabelle Adjani), who wants the money to leave the city with him.
