Eurochannel premieres Beyond Sleep, a movie about a young man's quest to continue his father's work. Alfred Issendorf, a geology student from Amsterdam receives a grant to do field work in Finnmark, Norway, to verify his professor’s theory that meteors have impacted the area leaving telltale craters. The excursion goes for days and days in the cold tundra and the forced coexistence with Arne and two other Norwegians will prove difficult for the unprepared Alfred, called to test his limits and his inferiority complexes. Based on the iconic Dutch novel "Nevermore to Sleep" by Willem Frederik Hermans, Beyond Sleep follows the ambitious Alfred as hopes to prove his professor’s theory. He is as insecure as he is ambitious. Hiking across the tundra for days on end with his Norse acquaintance Arne and two other Norwegians is tough for the untrained Alfred. He is at his limits. With most of the film consisting of Alfred walking in a bleak landscape muttering to himself, Beyond Sleep delivers stunning visuals and displays the incredible talents of the main character. The film visualizes brilliantly what goes on inside Alfred’s head. The beautiful wide nature shots, combined with the intense close-ups of Alfred and the clever sound design really pull you into his head and the story. Synopsis: Awards and festivals: |
