Created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Chernobyl: Aftermath follows the story of the nuclear tragedy from the perspective of a romance. Months before the fateful accident, Lera is transferred to Prypyat to teach at the local school. Upon her arrival, Igor, a young lieutenant falls for her. There she also meets Vitas – the love of her life, who works as a nuclear engineer. Lera dreams of a big family but the events that took place in April of 1986 irrevocably change the lives of them all.

Through eye-catching cinematography, Chernobyl: Aftermath depicts in an utterly vivid way the chaos that many people endured during the collapse of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. The series is also enriched by a mesmerizing make-up work, transporting viewers to the scenes of the tragedy with extreme realism, accompanying a story of romance and drama beyond the tragedy.

Divided into four thought-provoking episodes, Chernobyl: Aftermath delivers the human side of a tragedy by juxtaposing death and romance. These two faces of the same event prove that sometimes humans are capable of the best things, but also the worst when it comes to saving one’s life.
