Euroshorts Croatia

Every legend has a humble beginning. In the movies world, many of the greatest directors in the world have launched their careers by producing short films. These bite-sized samples of genius are, in many ways, more difficult to create than even a feature-length film. To tell a riveting story in such a short time takes both vision and skill which only the greatest among us possess.

Eurochannel honors the next generation of up-and-coming Croatian filmmakers by sharing their unique work with the world. Euroshorts Croatia is a special devoted to the art of the short film, is pleased to present these small, but wonderful stories.

This is a sampling of short films from Croatia, the beautiful country in the Balkan region, with a story richer beyond the tragic recent past it endured and a boosting creativity. Genius can emerge even in the most exotic places!

Director: Sasa Ban

Shooting of a commercial can be tedious, especially if you are an extra. First Lady of Dubrava (Prva Dama Dubrave, 2010)

Director: Barbara Vekarić

Amra is an attractive and talented teenager living in the outskirts of Zagreb. Her dirty rap music has made her quite popular in the neighborhood. Her ʺmanagerʺ has plans to shoot a music video, but she is supposed to babysit her sister. Amra is not willing to sacrifice her big chance.

Together (Together, 2014)

Director: Daniel Kusan

She is an unemployed mother with a two-year-old child. She is trying to find a job and to carry on with normal life in a crazy world in which relaxed moments are unusually valuable. The only sort of support she has is from her husband, who she talks to over the phone during the day. He works at a car store and will soon lose his job. He is furious at a situation which rejects him and does not allow him to take care of his family. Telephone conversations with his wife are superficial, discontinuous and not intimate enough. The only thing they are left with is to survive until the end of the day, survive a bunch of unimportant people and situations which only waste their time, and find peace in their home, togetherness, in family.

Sweetie (Mucica, 2012)

Director: Aldo Tardozzi

Today is the day when Tvrtko must choose the right path – the path to school.
