Flocking (Flocken, 2015) Cast: Fatime Azemi, John Risto, Eva Melander, Malin Levanon Presentation: When 14-year-old Jennifer claims to have been raped by her classmate Alexander, everything changes. It will be the beginning of a hot pursuit where the entire society turns against her and her family. Flocking is a well-played, skillfully constructed and a thought-provoking story based in the beautiful northern countryside of Sweden. Partly based on real events, this movie depicts the story of a small village community which is convinced that the young Jennifer is lying when she claims to have been raped by her classmate Alexander. Jennifer is in 9th Grade. When she claims that she was raped by her classmate Alexander and reports him for the crime, it has devastating consequences. All friends and acquaintances take the side of the perpetrator and do not give up on the idea of chasing Jennifer and her family away from the village. Loyalty is put to the test and it creates intricate networks of anger, threats and hatred against the girl who soon stands completely alone with her truth. This movie highlights issues of sexual vulnerability, structures of male culture, and how fears and mistrust turn collectivism and community into an unmanageable drive. It addresses and confronts difficult topics such as rape and guilt and sheds light on the problem. Flocking is dark and engaging, but above all, a very important film about how the community can turn against those who most need its support. This movie depicts how herd mentality takes precedence over logic and reason. Synopsis: Awards and festivals: |
