Biography: Kylie Minogue was born in 1968 in Melbourne, Australia. As a child, she worked as an actress on the Australian soap opera, Neighbours, before commencing a music career. Her first hit, 1987's Locomotion, became the decade's biggest selling single. While she was successful with her "good girl" image, Kylie wanted to become a more mature artist and in 2000, came out with her more dance-oriented album, Light Years. It was followed up with what proved to be her biggest hit yet, Fever. The 2001 album contained the single "Can't Get You Out of My Head", which got her recognized in markets she had not tapped yet, including the United States. In 2005, a doctor's visit would change her life forever. The singer, whose father is a prostate cancer survivor, was diagnosed with breast cancer. In order to undergo treatment, Kylie postponed the rest of her tour and put her career on hold. This was not to last however, as she made her way back to music and the spotlight. She even wrote a children's book in this time. In 2010, her doctors decided to finish her treatment and said they should find out if her cancer is in remission in mid-2011. Kylie's relationship with French actor Olivier Martinez began in 2002 and ended in 2007. Over the course of five years, the media would speculate that Martinez had cheated on her and stories began spreading like wildfire. The media said their break up was due to his infidelity; Kylie was saddened by the accusations and defended him, saying he was "the most honorable man I have ever met" and telling of how he stood by her side during her treatment for cancer. Trivia: • Kylie is a member of the Order of the British Empire, a title she earned for her services to music. |
