Presentation:

This film will teach you what a Naglfar is, which is not very common in European – nor in any other – movies! Dozens of facts and definitions will be explained by a weird gothic teenager as she grieves her mother’s death, deals with her grandmother cancer’s, feels attracted to a problematic rich kid, and enjoys sex – all to prove to us that Life’s No Piece of Cake!

Directed by André Erkau, a Dortmund-born director passionate about bizarre scenery and easy-going humor, Life’s No Piece of Cake tells the story of a family on the verge of a breakdown. In this drama with sparks of comedy, a family has to come to terms with bereavement when Markus Färber finds himself alone with his teenage daughter, Kim, after his wife dies in an unlikely accident and discovers that his mother has cancer.

By blending the tragic and the absurd, Life’s No Piece of Cake portrays how life sometimes takes its own course and presents difficulties for normal families, and how Germans deal with problems. The movie’s title in German can be literally translated as “life isn’t for cowards,” and every scene is a reflection of that. With his positive and comedic approach to everything from dealing with cancer to casual sex, André Erkau will leave you thinking about what you would do if you weren’t afraid!

Uplifting, funny, touching and sometimes upsetting, Life’s No Piece of Cake will move you to tears with its unexpected finale.
