Lost Kisses (I Baci Mai Dati, 2010)
Italy

Director: Roberta Torre
Cast: Donatella Finocchiaro, Pino Micol, Beppe Fiorello

Presentation:

Sometimes, what all the inhabitants expect in remote and quiet European small towns to happen and to change their lives is a miracle. Eurochannel invites you to journey to Sicilia and meet a teenager and her family, when all their fellow residents think she has the power of performing miracles. Welcome to the premiere of Lost Kisses.

Lost Kisses is a playful satire that might be seen as the collision of a moral tale and a fairy tale. Director Roberta Torre, whose prior work includes a musical about the Mafia, strikes a clever tone, mixing drab realism with sardonic humor, splashes of vibrant color, and fabulist flourishes (it’s an exceedingly bizarre hair salon). While the film plays with the idea of miracles in our image-obsessed material world, it is grounded emotionally in the relationship between mother and daughter.

Regarded by the press and critics for its visually stimulating imaginary with avant-garde touches, Lost Kisses was also awarded the Brian Award at the Venice Film Festival 2010 and earned nominations for the Silver Ribbon for Best Original Story and Best Costume Design at the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists 2011.

Synopsis:

Carla (Carla Marchese), a 13-year-old girl in the deprived outskirts of a sprawling Sicilian city, becomes a local celebrity to her needy community when word spreads that she might be able to perform miracles.
