When Death Strikes (La Mort N’ Oublie Personne, 2008) Director: Laurent Heynemann Presentation: Eurochannel is proud to present When Death Strikes, a never-before-seen film about the horrors of war, and the scars it leaves in the heart of its survivors. Starring the French star Malik Zidi, who won the Cesar award for best actor for his film Poison friends (2006). This thrilling tale of rebellion and family shows viewers a new look at post-war France. Synopsis: When Death Strikes is the tale of the former French rebel Jean Ricouart, a man whose life was turned upside down by the Nazi occupation of his homeland. This formerly mild-mannered family man was forced to become a deadly assassin, and before he was arrested in March 1944 he painted the streets of Germany red with the blood of Nazi collaborators. He was held in brutal German custody until the war's end, when he was released and allowed to return home to pick up the pieces of his life. Now he must face a challenge greater than war or prison: a normal life. It's not so easy to walk away from a blood-soaked past, however, and Jean soon finds himself arrested again just after he married Marie, the love of his life and mother of his first child. The ripples of Jean's old life go further than even he could have guessed, with his 11-year-old boy Lucien being tormented at school for the sins of his father. Director Laurent Heynemann utilizes the same talent that won him multiple awards for the films The Question (1977) and Les Mois D' Avril Sont Meurtriers (1987) to create a stirring drama about duty, |
