Fourth Eurochannel Short Films Tour - Laugh in Europe

The Eurochannel Short Films Tour is back for its fourth edition, with a special programming theme: Laugh in Europe.

An Enriched Tour

The Eurochannel Short Films Tour is a unique event inviting viewers to an exclusive journey into Europe through short films. Each European country is represented in the Tour with at least one short, broadcasted in its original language -and subtitled- as an example of its creativity and energy. With the Eurochannel Tour the viewers will discover Europe, visit its countries and listen to all its languages.

This year, the Tour includes new regions, notably from Spain (Basque Country, Castile, Catalonia, Alicante, Seville), the Netherlands (Northern Netherlands, Southern Netherlands, Limburg) and Italy (Lazio, Lombardy, Apulia). This fourth edition is also enriched with more animated short films, showcasing a wide range of styles.

Laughing : A Universal Desire

Laughing is proper to man, said the French author Rabelais: everyone aspires to laugh and joke. Every country that produces movies is making comedies. If laughing is universal, humor is, on the contrary, specific to each country and culture. We are often surprised or even shocked by certain types of foreign humor that we are not used to experiencing.

Laughing is also an incredible insight into a culture. Humor can be accessible as well as elitist, it can be merely visual or, on the contrary, be based on words. Humor can also be malicious, ironic or sarcastic. It can be joyful or melancholic. For some, it can be a way to add distance from reality. It can be a therapy, an antidote, a life philosophy.

During the Eurochannel Tour you will come across experienced filmmakers, like Igor Cobileanski from Moldavia, and you will also meet newcomers in the short films industry. It is not an easy task for young filmmakers to produce short comedies; it is in fact easier to provoke sadness than it is to cause laughter. It is an amazing accomplishment when their shorts, full of wit, succeed in arousing hilarity, even more impressive when it is done at an international level.

Laughing is a well-known anti-stress. It enables communication and sharing, sociability and complicity. It is also a good way to foment thinking about any kind of matter. Laughing in Europe is your escape to understanding Europe, contemplating about differences and similarities. It is about always being surprised. Follow Eurochannel into a journey to share humor from everywhere in Europe.

Humor & Humors

Laughing in Europe celebrates the art of short films, with a rich programming of European comedies:

  • A witty eye on the silver screen: a young Swedish girl imagines her Life In Trailers; and a Portuguese film team tries its best to provoke the tears of an infant in The Baby.
  • Silent Humor: In Austria, Bastagon shows the Rainbow Princess living a dream; in the Netherlands, a man is ready to do anything to discover what is Behind the Wall.
  • Talkative humor: A British couple takes an ironic look at their own history in Ring Theory; misunderstandings and hilarious situations occur when characters try finding their roots in the language barrier in Bibendum and Miracles in Armenia.
  • Exceptional, special or risible characters: An Italian clown who falls in love with a mobster's fiancée in Clown Heart; a Dutch child who thinks he is the personification of a famous author in Bukowski; a Bosnian writer seduced by his own creation in Edina.
  • Ridiculous situations: In Bulgaria, The Hey-Hunter is desperately looking for the perfect candidate; in Insignificant details of the accidental episode Russian travelers are stuck on a train for 20 years; Norwegian swimmers accomplish the impossible in Water Lilies in Bloom.
  • Moving personal stories in It's My Turn from Turkey or Carrier of Men from France.

Wide-awake dreams and absurd lives, refreshing romances and comical dramas; all will make you laugh during this Eurochannel Short Films Tour. These films celebrate life through music, cinema, family and travel, with a wide variety of tones and settings; with an omnipresent touch of local European humor.
