This month, Eurochannel reveals the hidden world of the Danish mafia on Lulu & Leon, a shocking story about violence, bribery, and one simple woman’s meteoric rise to the highest echelons of her husband’s criminal organization. You’ve never seen a family drama like this one before. Lulu is a charming mother of two who leads a modest life. She owns a hair salon in the suburbs, cares for her children, and loves Leon, her husband of ten years. Unbeknownst to her, however, her perfect life is little more than a cover for Leon’s criminal activities. As Lulu struggles to free Leon from prison, she is forced to carry on his business in the criminal underworld and deal with a vicious network of gangsters, hookers, and corrupt cops. This dangerous situation is further complicated by her lack of experience, and the chauvinistic, male-dominated pecking order of organized crime. Her troubles become even more complicated when she meets a corrupt cop named Patrick Smith and, despite the danger, develops an intense attraction to him. She must juggle her complex feelings with an even more complex cash flow problem, which she solves by borrowing from a used car salesman named Memeth. Synopsis: Episode 1 Everybody wants to find a job that fits their talents, but what if your best talent was for crime? Meet Luli (Lene Maria Christensen), a mild-mannered hairdresser who happens to be married to a criminal named Leon (Lars Brygmann). Episode 2 It goes without saying that Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) is having a rough time. Leon (Lars Brygmann) has been taken into custody and has now been charged with masterminding the highly publicized Hvidovre Heist, a charge Leon denies. Detectives Ole Sund (Henning Valin Jakobsen) and Patrick Smith (Lars Kaalund) are leading the investigation and have frozen all the family’s assets as a means of pressuring Leon to confess. Episode 3 Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) decides to investigate what Leon (Lars Brygmann) was actually up to the night of the Hvidovre Heist. According to Leon, he and his half brother Ken (Thomas Levin) had arranged a poker night in the basement with a third player. Something doesn’t quite add up, though, and when Lulu looks into Ken’s movements, a disturbing truth starts to emerge. Episode 4 It’s hard to tell which is worse: Not only is Leon (Lars Brygmann) keeping his wife Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) in the dark about the true nature of his work, Lulu has now found convincing evidence that Leon has had an affair. As she attempts to uncover the truth about Leon and their beautiful neighbor Alexandra (Lene Nystrøm), Lulu discovers that not all is as it seems in their quaint suburban neighborhood. Episode 5 Leon (Lars Brygmann) is getting desperate. He doesn’t trust the police and wants to get out of jail so he can prove his own innocence. A fellow inmate, Allan (Jens Basse Dam), has information about the actual perpetrators behind the Hvidovre Heist but won’t say anything for free: His criminal enterprise has taken a group of Ukrainian girls who need to be taken from the boat, to the harbour, all the way to a seedy brothel without alerting the cops. Leon asks Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) for help, which she agrees without hesitation. Episode 6 Leon (Lars Brygmann) is betrayed by his contacts in prison. He’s beaten to a pulp, left without the information he desperately needs to prove his innocence, and worst of all his own wife has started to doubt him. Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) is finally starting to understand the true nature of the man she has been living with for so many years: a revelation that detective Patrick Smith (Lars Kaalund) seems eager to help her with. Back in the real world, in an attempt to get her band a gig, Isa (Nicole Johansen) looks up an old popular music hall after Leon puts her in touch with the manager. Episode 7 Lulu (Lene Marie Christensen) is in disarray. She’s begun to doubt whether she even loves Leon (Lars Brygmann). Further complicating matters, Patrick (Lars Kaalund), has been using her moment of weakness to get closer and closer to her. In an effort to discover her true feelings, Lulu writes a heartfelt letter to Leon, reminiscing about the past and trying to recall the love they’ve shared. Meanwhile, Johnny (Jacob Randru) plans to surprise Isa (Nicole Johansen) with a special gift. Episode 8 It’s Christmas Eve, and Lulu (Lene Marie Christensen) has brought Leon (Lars Brygmann) an unexpected gift: a pile of divorce papers. Distraught, Leon vows to escape prison to spend Christmas with his family. He’s mostly doing it for the kids’ sake – or so he tells himself – but it doesn’t hurt that it’ll give him a chance to keep the lecherous Patrick (Lars Kaalund) away from Lulu. At home, Isa (Nicole Johansen) and Jonathan (Jacob Ottensten) are miserable despite Lulu’s desperate efforts to keep up the Christmas cheer. Episode 9 Bruised, beaten, and heart-broken, Leon (Lars Brygmann) has gone from being a prisoner in jail to a prisoner in his own home. Patrick (Lars Kaalund) has his own plans for Leon, and poor Lulu (Lene Marie Christensen) doesn’t know how to handle having these two volatile men under the same roof. She thinks that their rivalry is all about her, but in truth Patrick is more interested in Leon’s unfulfilled plan to rob a money transport to Frankfurt. The truck is stuffed to the brim with all of the money spent in Denmark over the holiday, and the clock is ticking. Episode 10 After a botched poisoning, Lulu (Lene Marie Christensen) wakes up from a coma in the hospital. She opens her eyes to see Leon (Lars Brygmann) sitting there at her side. In this tender, vulnerable moment, she realizes that the man in front of her has always been true to her, and had done everything in his power to save her life. Moved by his undying devotion, she finally reconciles with her estranged lover. Their moment is interrupted by the arrival of detective Ole Sund (Henning Valin Jakobsen), who has finally uncovered Patrick’s (Lars Kaalund) treachery. Episode 11 Patrick (Lars Kaalund), knowing that he can’t rob the transport alone, breaks Leon out of jail and threatens him to ensure cooperation. This unexpected twist thrusts Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) into harm’s way between the man she loves and the man who is destroying her life. In order to maintain Patrick’s trust and keep her plan on track, she is forced to side with him against her beloved Leon (Lars Brygmann). Episode 12 Will Lulu (Lene Maria Christensen) and Leon (Lars Brygmann) ever be reunited? Can the family be salvaged? The hour of reckoning is near and Patrick (Lars Kaalund) has plans of his own, but there is still hope for Lulu and Leon. |
