Back to life (Une vie en retour, 2005)
France

Director: Daniel Janneau
Cast: Michel Aumont, Annue Duperey, Florence Pernel

In 1944 a little Jewish girl named Lisa (Juliette Lamboley) was taken in by a family living in the Paris’ suburbs, the Duvals (Anny Duperey and Michel Aumont). Even while Lisa continued to live under her adoptive parents' roof, they occasionally took in other children.

Twelve years later, in 1956, Claire (Daphné Baiwir), another young Jewish girl whose parents had escaped death in the concentration camps, was placed in a foster family by her mother, who couldn't find the emotional strength to raise her herself.

This story takes place in 1956 and portrays the uneasy friendship between these two girls who have so much in common, yet are also separated by so much. Claire's understandable but unfortunate affection for her mother, who is unable to share with her daughter anything other than her mourning; and the troublesome encounter of Lisa with her own mother, who turns up to reclaim her child and set the stage for a new life, one in which the two teenagers find the means to fly with their own wings ten years after the Holocaust.
