The Forgotten Twins (Les Jumeaux Oubliés, 2004)
France

Director: Jerôme Cornuau
Cast: Clément Sibony, Isabelle Renauld, Christian Charmetant

One of them, Adrien, is the perfect son: a good student, a kind boy, the sort of well-behaved adolescent that every parent dreams of. The other, Mathieu, has grown up in the care of the Social Services; he is a charming and unscrupulous tearaway who seems to thrive on aggravation and petty crime. By rights, they should never have met. And yet...they are twins. When Mathieu learns about the existence of his twin brother, he is carried away by his deep sense of injustice, and decides to kidnap Adrien and take his place in his adoptive family.

But Mathieu soon finds out his mistake: kidnapping is twin brother is never going to find him his family, the mother and father that he never knew. He decides to let Adrien go, but not without informing him that he has a twin brother and that he has been adopted. The effects of this revelation are explosive: it brings to light an old family secret and launches the two brothers on a journey of initiation in search of their real mother.

The quest will enable them to get to know and to respect each other, and their adventures take the form of a road movie, in the course of which they will grow to resemble each other more and more. All the things that kept them apart start to bring them closer to each other: Mathieu, the rebel, will learn to soften his rough edges and be more accepting of others; in short, he will learn to love; while the well-brought-up and protected Adrien, through the influence of his twin, will toughen up and mature. Their quest for the mother they never knew will change their lives forever.
