Not Like others (Vampyrer, 2008)
Sweden

Director: Peter Pontikis
Cast: Jenny Lampa, Ruth Vega Fernandez, David Dencik

Presentation:

They never disappeared; they just hide in the darkness, silently waiting for the right moment to emerge. In a world where everyone seeks fairness and equality, two sibling vampires face their fate in a new society, changing their lives forever. Eurochannel invites you to discover a fantastically unique portrayal, defying stereotypical vampires, in Not Like Others.

Not Like Others offers an innovative perspective on the traditional vampire, in modern day Sweden. This 70-minutes film compellingly imparts the tale of challenges faced by two highly unusual vampire sisters. After a night feeding in a club, leaving the leader of a gang dead, his followers won’t hesitate to pursue them until the siblings pay.

Offering an atypical portrait of the vampire -there’s not a fang in sight; the sisters use razorblades to bleed their victims. Taking the bloody gore away, director Peter Pontikis presents a reflection on opposite personalities, evoking comparisons with the other groundbreaking Swedish vampire thriller: Let the Right One In. Not Like Others is a poignant story about true sacrifice and unbreakable bonds.

Enjoy a new dimension of the popular wave of vampire cinema currently arousing across Sweden, Europe and the globe, and discover why now, more than ever before, vampires could easily be living among humans.

Synopsis:

Vera (Jenny Lampa) and Vanja (Ruth Vega Fernandez) are two vampire sisters who are forced to run for their lives when Vera kills the leader of a biker-gang in a night club. While escaping from the bikers, Vanja becomes increasingly more determined in her desire to leave the outcast vampire lifestyle and adjust to the human world. She wants to live a normal life, even though it would mean the end of the life she shares with her sister. Vera refuses to accept a life in solitude and is willing to fight to make her sister stay.
