Solino (2002) Director: Fatih Akin Italy in the 60s. One day Romano and Rosa, the parents of Gigi and Giancarlo, two young brothers, decide to leave their sun-drenched home in Apulia and move to Germany. In the grey industrial rust-belt they soon open the first pizza parlour of the neighbourhood, adding a little spice to the local restaurant scene. While Romano is soon completely wrapped up in his role as restaurant owner, his wife Rosa, even after many years, continues to suffer from incurable homesickness. With warmth and wittiness, lightness and charm, SOLINO traces the destiny of an Italian "Gastarbeiter" (immigrant worker) family in their new land. Spanning three decades, the film portrays the family coping with homesickness and adapting to a new culture. A family sharing great hopes, small triumphs, and repeated setbacks.
