Get your bodies ready to dance! Go back in time this month with the Spice Girls in a stunning Euromusic special featuring their major hit-singles to discover the ins and arounds of the 90s pop phenomenon. This special promises to make you stand up and dance till the end!

Spice Girls were the first major British pop music phenomenon of the mid-90s using dance-pop as a musical base as well as infusing their music with a fiercely independent, feminist posture. Their proud, all-girl image and catchy dance-pop appealed to young listeners, while their colourful, sexy personalities and sense of humour appealed to older music fans, making Spice Girls a cross-generational success.

With a massive marketing campaign, the Spice Girls teased the British press and the world with a unique personality for each one of their members. Therefore, Geri Estelle Halliwell was the 'sexy Spice', Melanie Janine Brown was the 'scary Spice', Victoria Adams 'the posh Spice', Melanie Jayne Chisholm was 'the sporty Spice' and Emma Lee Bunton was 'the baby Spice'.

After the release of Spice (1996), a 'Spicemania' took over the world and soon after all clubs and radio stations were playing the group's major single: "Wannabe", peaking at the No 1 in the UK charts and turning into the most successful song released by a female group selling around 7 million copies.

Despite their outstanding success, the Spice Girls split up in 2001 after the release of their third album: Forever (2000). However, the quintet reunited in June 2007 for a Reunion Tour that led them to America, Canada and Europe. Lately in 2011, the Spice Girls made new plans together. The quintet agreed to plan a West End musical in London to be called Viva Forever.

Owners of a record breaking career with several awards including five BRIT Awards, three American Music Awards, three MTV Europe Music Awards, one MTV Video Music Awards and three World Music Awards and a 38 seconds sold-out record for their Reunion Tour, the Spice Girls are back again together to take you back to the 90s in this Euromusic special.

Biography:

The Spice Girls were a British pop girl group formed in 1994 by Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, and Geri Halliwell. They were signed to Virgin Records and released their debut single, "Wannabe" in 1996, which hit the No 1 in more than 30 countries and helped establish the group as a global phenomenon. Credited for being the pioneers that paved the way for the commercial breakthrough of teen pop in the late 90s, their debut album, Spice, sold more than 23 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group in music history.

They have sold over 95 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling female group of all time. Measures of their success include international record sales, a 2007–2008 reunion tour, merchandising, record-breaking achievements, iconic symbolism such as Geri Halliwell's Union Jack dress, representing 'Girl Power', a box-office film: Spice World, and their internationally recognised nicknames.

Trivia:

• The Spice Girls signed a deal with Victoria's Secret in 2007 to sell their hits album in the lingerie boutique and store's website. The store also sold a karaoke CD of the girls' hits.
• According to an interview with Geri Halliwell, Melanie B stopped the Spice Girls' reunion from happening in 2005.
• It is said that Prince Harry and Prince William were big fans of the girls. In fact, at his boarding school, Prince William replaced the poster of Pamela Anderson in his room with one of Emma aka Baby Spice.
