Tallinn Spicy Sprats: The Canned Tales (Tallinna kilud, 2011) Director: Jaak Kilmi Presentation: It was 1985 and he was still a bullied kid when risked his life for lust. They are kids and saw the fear on a man’s eyes. The man found a graveyard while digging in the ground to install a telecommunications antenna. He was from the countryside and his first encounter with Tallinn people was with a bunch of punks. Tallinn Spicy Sprats is an innovative documentary in which 12 different persons will share their lives, and almost unbelievable stories. It’s also the story of a city that has attracted peasants escaping from serfdom, girls from small towns dreaming of jobs at the Tallinn Department Store, dropouts trying working on construction sites during the real estate boom, and vulnerable artistic souls that felt stifled in their home villages. Presented in a unique way, Jaak Kilmi makes of this documentary a true portray of Estonia’s society with its wonders and problems. A fairytale created on pure reality! Synopsis: Jaak Kilmi and Kiur Aarma’s fresh documentary tragicomedy Tallinn Spicy Sprats: the Canned Tales investigates the relationship between the city and its residents by recreating the personal stories and dreams of 12 ordinary people. In the film, the stories of the living and dead, memories and city legends, children and skeletons meet. All these different stories are connected by a five-hundred-year-old murder story that occurred in old Tallinn. This old story – a story about justice and equality – is recreated by 12 ordinary Tallinn residents. |
