The Investigation (Razledvane, 2006) Director: Iglika Triffonova Presentation: The Investigation takes us into the minds of two people: a relentless detective and the man she is investigating. They are two people dealing with different emotional burdens, one is accused of murdering his brother and the other is taking over a case after it has been abandoned. Director Iglika Triffonova describes the film as "the extremely difficult contact two people have in a limited, three-week period – a time given to them to be together." They must both deal with these difficulties enough, but they toll on them in ways they never imagined. Plamen Goranov (Krassimir Dokov) is detained as a suspect of taking his brother's life. He denies any involvement and with the lack of evidence, the investigation is going to be suspended. Alexandra Yakimova (Svetla Yancheva) is the new investigator designed to follow the case. During the day she interrogates relatives of the two brothers as well as their friends and colleagues and by night she interrogates the suspect. She hasn't got much time left for her family. She and Plamen have something in common: their loneliness. While the investigation evolves, it focuses on its main theme of desperate loneliness and how to come to terms with it. Born in 1957, Iglika Triffonova graduated from The National Academy for Theatre and Cinema in 1982 as a film and television director. She has worked as an assistant director for many feature films' productions, including Ivan & Alexandra (1989), directed by acclaimed Bulgarian director Ivan Nichev. In 1990, she wrote and directed the documentary Year of 1990, followed by the documentaries Possible Distances (1992), Murder Stories (1993), Portrait of an Actress (1994) and On the Road (1995). Her first full- length feature film, Letter to America came in 2001 and was submitted representing Bulgaria to the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in that year. The Investigation (2006) is her second feature. The Investigation is a psychological drama, Winner of Cottbus and Sofia Film Festivals between others. Synopsis: Plamen (Krassimir Dokov) is detained as the only suspect in a murder case. Alexandra (Svetla Yancheva) is the only female investigator in the police department.
