Avant garde writer Francoise (Catherine Deneuve) meets an elderly millionaire, who, for reasons unknown to her, begins a cruel game of cat-and-mouse, manipulating every facet of her life. The game’s stakes are soon raised, as the equally unsuspecting and happily married man Mark is drawn into the drama. Unbeknownst to the old man, however, Francoise possesses the unique ability to call up ghosts of the past – a past which may, for some, be best left forgotten. The old man invites Mark to his mansion for the grand finale of his performance, not knowing that things may not turn out the way he planned. |
