Antony & The Johnsosn: The Crying Light Presentation: In a special titled Antony & The Johnsons: The Crying Light, members talk about the new album The Crying Light and plans for this year. The program also plays video clips of the singles “Another World”, “Epilepsy is Dancing”, “Hope There's Someone”, “Crazy in Love” and “You Are My Sister”, with the special participation of Boy George. Founder of the band, singer and pianist Antony Hegarty was born in the UK and grew up in California, but it was in New York where he felt most secure to express his sexual ambiguity. While studying experimental theatre, he formed his first group called the Performance Blacklips Cult. In 2000 the transsexual musician created Antony & The Johnsons and in that same year released their debut album. Soon after, Antony's talent was recognized by singer and guitarist Lou Reed who invited him to be on his albums The Raven and Animal Serenade. Besides being honored by one of the biggest names in alternative music, the singer also starred in the films, including Animal Factory (2000), starring Steve Buscemi, and Road Wild (2004) starring Sebastien Lifshitz. The album As I Am a Bird Now, was released in 2005 and won the British Mercury award, giving the group new visibility. Other high points of Antony's career were the duets with Bjork, Dull Flame of Desire and My Juveline, in his sixth studio album, Volta. The theme of the program is The Crying Light, the third album by the band, featuring the hits Another World, One Dove and Everglade. |
