Presentation:

Meet the band that critics are saying have changed the face of music forever. The Arctic Monkeys, a band whose story is as colourful as their name, climbed out of the depths of the internet to the top of the charts in the UK and American. Witness the revival of Brit Post-Punk, exclusively on Eurochannel.

The Arctic Monkeys are famous for combining musical influences from all across the spectrum: they borrowed the sounds of Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and the Clash, put them in a blender, and hit “go.” What came out was a unique hybrid of swaggering indie rock and pulsating neo-punk beats. .

By distributing their homemade material on the internet, Arctic Monkeys were able to build a sizable fan base without the help of a record label. From the digital world, they took their place in the music scene by signing with Domino Records in 2005.

Arctic Monkeys' debut sold approximately 300,000 total copies in America — enough to warrant more media coverage, but notably less than the album's British sales during just its first week. Nevertheless, their success continued as they released a spring EP, Who the F**k Are Arctic Monkeys?, and prepared for a stateside tour.

Since then, the Artic Monkeys have enjoyed an unprecedented success. Now, these award-winning megastars have come to Eurochannel to deliver an enchanting and irreverent punk experience.

Biography:

Formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield, the Artic Monkeys are Alex Turner (lead vocals, Lead/rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (rhythm/lead guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Matt Helders (drums, percussion, backing vocals). They have released four studio album as well as one live album, and their debut became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Oasis' Definitely Maybe. To this day, their debut remains the fastest-selling debut album for a band in the UK. Arctic Monkeys are heralded as one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet with commentators suggesting they represented the future of the entire music industry.

Trivia:

• Arctic Monkeys have enjoyed a fanatically loyal fan-base since day one. Rather than trying to sell their first albums, they released them for free on the internet. Everybody loves free stuff, and before long everybody also loved the Arctic Monkeys.
• The cover of Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, was widely criticized for encouraging smoking.
• They broke the record of the fastest-selling debut album in British music history.
