Capitaines d’avril (Capitães de Abril, 2000) Réalisateur: Maria de Medeiros Thanks to "April Captain", Maria de Medeiros's talent was widely rewarded since she won two golden globes in 2001, in Portugal in both "Best Actress" and "Best Film" categories. In 2000, she won also "the audience award" in Bordeaux International Festival of Women in Cinema and "The International Jury Award" in Sao Paulo International Film Festival
In Portugal, late in the night of April 24 to 25, 1974, the radio broadcast an outlawed song: "Gradola". It could have just been an act of insubordination by a rebellious journalist. It was in fact the pre-planned signal triggering the military coup which was to change the face of this little country, and the destiny of vast territories in Africa. In contrast with the previous year's tragic military putsch in Chile, the Portuguese revolution unfolded like an adventure, marked by the peaceful and lyrical way it played itself out. |
