Coldplay has probably been one of the most successful music bands of the last decade. Besides having reached the number 1 of Billboard for 2 weeks, the new album was at the top of the UK ranking for more than a month. Overall, their album has been a huge success in more than 40 countries, beating the previous album that had been released in 32 nations. To understand the popularity of Coldplay, Eurochannel presents an exclusive selection of their most recent hits sung live and in the studio. Biography: Coldplay was funded in London by vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland while they were students at the University College London. Soon after, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they formed a band under the name of Starfish. The band started to play in small clubs in Camden, North London, and their first demos, recorded in the late 90s, were sent to college and alternative radio stations within the UK and the US. Coldplay turned into a massive success in both sides of the Atlantic after the release of the single “Yellow” in 2000, which was followed by their first studio album: Parachutes. Since then, Coldplay’s career has been a pleasant cruise of success. Their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), rose to the highest positions into the charts and was named as the Best Album of the Year by the prestigious music magazine NME. With X&Y and Viva la Vida and Death All His Friends the band has continued their outrageous path, earning several Grammy nominations and wins at Grammy Awards. Trivia: • Coldplay refused to sell their songs to be used in product ads, yet allow them to be used in film and television. |
