Corinne Bailey Rae is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist who released her eponymous debut album Corinne Bailey Rae in February 2006. Rae was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics. The poll's predictions subsequently came true, as she became only the fourth female British act in history to have her first album debut at number one. Her first success, “Like a Star”, conquered both the audience and English critics who praised her unique voice, the quality of her lyrics and her own musical style. A lot of them predicted her to have a long and successful musical career.

Biography:

Corinne Bailey Rae is an English singer born on February 26, 1979 in Leeds. She made her debut as a chorister in a church and has always been close to soul music. It was her choirmaster who discovered her talent as a composer and gave her her first electric guitar.

She’s an English literature student who used to sing in a jazz club where she met a saxophonist she married in 2001 at the age of 21. Corinne then composed her own songs and collaborated with various musicians. She worked with the funk band The New Mastersounds on the track "Your Love Is Mine" in 2003 and also worked on the first album of another group of Leeds, Homecut Directive, with the song "Come the Revolution". In 2004 she signed with Global Talent Publishing and appeared on the album Better Luck Next Time of Mark Hill (producer of Craig David) with the title "Young and Foolish", released in April 2005, attracting the attention of major labels.

In November 2005 she signed a record deal with EMI and released her first song, "Like a Star", followed by her first album in February 2006. It quickly became No. 1 in the British charts and entered the top 10 in U.S. charts.

By the end of 2006, Corinne began working on her new album at the Warren House Farm studio near Scarborough in North Yorkshire. But her husband died tragically in 2008. He died as the result of an accidental overdose of methadone and alcohol and after that she stopped composing for 2 years. In February 2010, she released her second album, The Sea, marked by the tragic death of her husband.
