Presentation:

Amidst the green fields of Ireland, a woman named Grace lives a charmed life. This young mother embodies the worst excesses of a generation, and shows us that getting everything your heart desires can be a curse. As a child, Grace wanted for nothing: toys, treats, affection, she had it all – and then some. Now fully grown, time has not made her wise. In fact, she's worse than ever.

The unfortunate boy in question, Eamon, loves to sleep in the same bed as his mother. This suits Grace just fine, since the last thing she wants is to share it with Daniel, her equally hapless lover. Frustrated by his exile from Grace's bedroom, Daniel tosses and turns at night, unable to sleep, causing the tension in the house to reach a boiling point.

As her loved ones battle for her attention, the indifferent Grace decides to focus her energies on sunbathing and ogling a local surfer with a great body. Daniel, meanwhile, forces Eamon to enrol in a children's activity club. Eamon is frustrated at first, but quickly becomes fascinated by one of his new club mates: a handsome, popular boy who takes his mind off of his mother for the first time. This gives Daniel the perfect opportunity to make his move on Grace.

Synopsis:

The film follows Eamon (Robert Donnelly), a quiet, disturbed six-year old on a disastrously dysfunctional staycation with his narcisstic mother Grace (Amy Kirwan) and his well-meaning but hapless father Daniel (Darren Healy). Eamon’s monopoly on his mother’s affections, with oedipal overtones as thick as the suntan lotion he rubs on her back, has left Daniel playing the third wheel to his own son.

Grace, meanwhile, only has eyes for a Daniel Craig-like vision of masculinity sauntering along the beach in nothing but a speedo. Corkery’s stylishly assured writing and direction lay the groundwork for the ensuing debacle; a train of events set off by spoiled Grace‘s wandering eyes and hyperactive Eamon’s consumption of just one glass of cola…

Trivia:

• Eamon won the Best Film Award from the Forum of Independents at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
• Director and scriptwriter Margaret Corkery wrote the story in about ten days to meet the deadline of an independent film foundation.
