Nightsongs (Die Nacht singt ihre Lieder, 2004) Director: Romuald Karmakar An unemployed young father cannot find the strength to leave the house anymore. As if paralyzed, he spends his days on the sofa and dreams of a career as an author. Disheartened by his passiveness and stifled by the oppressive atmosphere at home, his young wife wants to go out and have fun. The couple has not been married long yet, and for both of them marriage is a burden they find increasingly impossible to bear. Their child won't stop screaming, and when the young man's parents stop by, it's only for a few minutes. Unable to take it any longer, the young woman goes out to meet someone. When she returns home late at night, she finds that nothing has changed. Except that now all the repressed silence and apathy bursts out and leads to a tragedy. |
