The Tiger’s Empire (L'Empire Du Tigre, 2005) Director: Gérard Marx Eurochannel presents Empire Tigre (L'Empire Du Tigre, 2006), a story portraying a landowner in Vietnam during World War II. Co-produced by France and Belgium, the series explores a little-known: the beginning of the separatist movement in Vietnam. Portrayed in miniseries, the rising nationalist wave of the peoples of Indochina was the fuse that lit the Vietnam War, a conflict in which the United States would participate in the 1960's and generated protests throughout the world. In the plot, directed by Gérard Marx, the French Pierre Balsan (Bernard Giraudeau) is living quietly with his wife in the heart of the Asian country in 1938, the year war exploits in Europe. In a region known as "El Tigre" -for its many successful confrontations with these cats, Balsan exports a very popular painkiller at the time: quinine, a substance extracted from the bark of native trees, and sees in the Second War world a great opportunity for their businesses. Everything changes, however, when a tragedy: the murder of his beloved wife. After being identified as the murderer by the local authorities, Balsan had to fight to prove his innocence, also battling to keep the manufacture of the remedy. |
