Biography:

Born in Italy, Maria Chiara Fraschetta began performing at the age of 13. She studied opera and spent a portion of her childhood in Ireland. Living in Ireland helped her to become bilingual in English and Italian.

After high school, she lived for two years in Chicago and New York where she acquired her real musical identity: a mix of R&B, reggae, soul, and Italian music of the 1960s. She began working in television and got a job as a VJ for MTV. In 2009, she signed her first contract with Universal and released her first single 50mila, performed as a duet with Giuliano Palma, a radio success. Nina Zilli's style is a mix between sound, soul and R&B and also a reminder of the sixties.

She made it to the final four in the 2010 San Remo Song Festival in the "New Generation" category. On February 19, 2010, she released her album Sempre lontano (Still far away), that entered 5th place in the fifth week of release in Italy. It is not only a commercial success but also a radio success: L'uomo che amava le donne was a hit song on Italian radio. On February 18, 2011, she was again a guest at the San Remo Song Festival.

Trivia:

• Her name combines the name of her favorite singer, Nina Simone, with the surname of her mother: Zilli.
