Army of Crime (2009) - Robert Guédiguian Synopsis: The poet Missak Manouchian (Simon Abkarian) leads a group of young Jews, Hungarians, Spaniard, Romanian, Italians, Poles and Armenians in a clandestine battle against the Nazi occupation and in defence of the France of Human Rights they love. Twenty-two men and one woman fighting for an ideal and for freedom. News of their daring attacks, including the assassination of an SS general, eventually reaches Berlin. Biography of Robert Guédiguian (Director): Born to a German mother and an Armenian father, Robert Guédiguian has lived and worked almost exclusively in Marseilles, often casting the same actors in his films. He first saw international success in the late 90s, with films such as The Town Is Quiet (2000), Charge! (2000), Where the Heart Is (1998), and Marius and Jeannette (1997). His more recent credits include Lady Jane (2008), Journey Armenia (2006), The Last Mitterrand (2005), My Father Is an Engineer (2004) and Marie-Jo and Her 2 Lovers (2002). Grown in a working class family, he portrayed part of his roots in Journey Armenia. In 2011 his film The Snows of Kilimanjaro premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. |
