Biography Mélanie Doutey

Born in Paris, Melanie Doutey grew up in a family of actors and after receiving a pre-bachelor degree in English she studied theatre at the Périmony Court and later at the Conservatory.

She began her acting career in 1998 with a small role in Les Gens qui s’aiment (People Who Love Each Other) and the lead role in Leila before being nominated Most Promising Actress for her role in Le Frère du Guerrier (The Warrior's Brother) at the César. In 2002, she graduated from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art.

In 2003, she appeared in Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil) by Claude Chabrol and won the Suzanne Bianchetti award. In 2004 she played in the Spanish film El Lobo (The Wolf) by Eduardo Noriega and a year later took the role of Clara Sheller in the French series of the same.

The series was aired on France 2 and was like a French version of Will and Grace, tellling the story of a thirty year old girl who shares an apartment with her best friend (played by Frederic Diefenthal).

This role revealed her to the general public. But in spite of the remarkable success of the series, Melanie Doutey did not get her contract renewed for the second season. Therefore, she decided to focus on her career in theatre and in cinema.

In 2006 she returned to the big screen with President, alongside Albert Dupontel. Then with Fair Play, together with Marion Cotillard, and lastly with On va s’aimer (We Will Love), a musical by Ivan Calbérac.

After that, she played in various other films. In 2009 she shared the stage with Kad Merad for the film RTT. In 2010, she played in Une Petite Zone de Turbulences (A Little Zone of Turbulences) with Michel Blanc and Miou-Miou and was part of the jury at the Angers Premiers Plans Festival.
