Biography Nova van Dijk From 1995 to 1999 Nova van Dijk studied at various art schools in the Netherlands - the Rietveld Academy, the Photography Academy and the Theatre School. In 2004 she was accepted to the Dutch Film and Television Academy in the director’s course. While still in film school, she directed the live- action film Shoebox Theatre in 2006. In 2007 she took a year off to study film editing at the New York Film Academy followed by the Robert MacKee seminar. Back in The Netherlands, she wrote and directed the short fiction film Brother and assisted various directors with feature films such as Vox Populi and Sextet (director Eddy Terstall), and theatre shows by Hans Teeuwen en Porgy Fransen. In 2009 she graduated with the documentary film Tzirk, an intimate portrait of a circus family travelling through Russia, which was well received by the critics. In the same year she wrote and directed the documentary Hangover in cooperation with the Dutch film producer Pieter van Huystee and NPS Television. In 2010 she wrote and directed The Big City and Cat and Mice which she made together with her sister, screenwriter Laura van Dijk. She also produced and directed two absurdist fiction films; Born To Be 'Alive' and Wild And Free. |
