Sinopse: Realizado pela MTV húngara, a produção narra um dos períodos mais tristes da história da sofrida Ucrânia. Entre os anos de 1932 e 1933, a então república soviética viveu um período de escassez de alimentos que levou cerca de oito milhões de pessoas à morte em 500 dias. O motivo foram as políticas soviéticas, implantadas pelo ditador Joseph Stálin, que forçaram famílias a trabalhar em fazendas coletivas, o que gerou enorme diminuição da produção do então próspero campesinato ucraniano. A fome sem precedentes, que assolou todo o país, conhecida como Kholomodor, é considerada uma das maiores calamidades que afetaram a Ucrânia moderna. Além de analisar o contexto ideológico, econômico e político que ocasionou essa tragédia, o documentário busca outras possíveis motivações.

Kholodomor (Famine in Ukraine, Hungary, 2008)

Synopsis: Kholodomor tells the story about the famine which occurred in the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic in 1932–1933 during which around 8 million people were starved to death over 500 days, due to the Soviet policies laid out by Lenin that forced farmers into collective farms (kolkhozes) and eventually crushed the large Ukrainian peasantry, leading to an unprecedented famine. The Holodomor is considered as one of the greatest calamities to have affected the Ukrainian nation in modern history. The documentary studies the ideological, economical and political context of this tragedy and examines the various possible root causes of the famine. It features interviews of experts, witnesses, politicians (including the President of Ukraine, Victor Yuschenko) and many archive images.
