Go Get Some Rosemary (2009) - Ben Safdie & Joshua Safdie Synopsis: After months of being alone, sad, busy, sidetracked, free, lofty, late and away from his kids, Lenny (Ronald Bronstein), 34 with greying frazzled hair, picks his kids up from school. Every year he spends of couple of weeks with his sons Sage (Sage Ranaldo), 9, and Frey (Frey Ranaldo), 7. Lenny juggles his kids and everything else all within a midtown studio apartment in New York City. He ultimately faces the choice of being their father of their friend with the idea that these two weeks must last 6 months. In these two weeks, a trip upstate, visitors from strange lands, a mother, a girlfriend, “magic” blankets, and complete lawlessness seem to take over their lives. The film is a swan song to excuses and irresponsibility; to fatherhood and self-created experiences, and to what is like to be truly torn between being a child and being an adult. The film is also known as Daddy Longlegs. Biography of Joshua Sadie (Director) He was born and raised in New York City: in both Queens & Manhattan. After his dad bought a Hi-8 camcorder, he and his brother ate, slept, and did "life" on camera. He and Friends started the film collective Red Bucket Films in 2001 and he finally graduated from the Boston University Film Department. Currently lives in New York City. Biography of Ben Sadie (Director): Ben Safdie was born and raised in New York, where he grew up under the filming influence of his father and the familiar stability of his mother. As his parents divorced when he was 6 months old, his father ventured into the project of filming Ben and his brother Joshua with a video 8 camera. The result was almost 300 hours of footage with all kind of activities performed by the brothers. He started his filming career due to his profound passion for cinema and formed the production company, Red Bucket Films, composed of fellow film buffs Sam Lisenco, Zachary Treitz, his older brother, and high school friend, Alex Kalman. Ben Safdie has based most of his films on real events. The Back of Her Head (2007) is a true example of this, creating the story on a neighbour of his brother who used to rant to his girlfriend. Mostly recognized for his independent films, Safdie's movies have made the rounds at various independent film festivals, including the 2008 Director's Fortnight in Cannes, which screened The Acquaintances of a Lonely John (2008). His film Daddy Longlegs (2009), also known as Go Get Some Rosemary was based on his childhood experiences with his brother and him being filmed by his father. He and his brother were nominated for a John Cassavetes Award from the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards for Daddy Longlegs. |
