Interview with Peter Mygind (Jan) Could you present the show to us in a few words? It is a crime series where you follow a young single mother in her daily life at a Copenhagen police station. She has ambitions, but it can be difficult when she lives alone with her son. What attracted you to the character of Jan? I told the producers of the show that i wanted to make a character that wasn't a joke or making fun of being gay. That was very important for me. And they agreed. Jan is the room made to Anna. He is at guy with a big heart and some clear thoughts about, how to make food, using the right knifes, putting the milk back in the fridge the right way. So I make some conflicts between him and Anna. Are there many gay characters on Danish TV? No, not at all. Often actors overdo it when play a gay person and that is a pity. I have met many gay persons in my life and I couldn't see or hear that they were gay. I told my sons that I was going to play a gay person, and they said, "Hey dad, is that good for your career?" They were actually afraid that they would be mobbed in school because of that. I was in shock. We had at long talk about being gay in Denmark. I have a lot of gay friends who still sometimes are afraid of showing their love so it is very important that gay people are a part of our series in the world. Can you describe your experience working with everyone involved in the series? I have worked with a lot of the guys before. I have been in more than 7 series the last 18 years. I started up in Lars Von Tries «Kingdom» as a medicine student...I love making series, going to work every day and having a new story with your character. Fantastic... What are the main differences between Danish TV series and Hollywood TV series? They are more down to earth... more socially realistic in a way...but I love American series. Right now, Mad Men is my favorite. What are your upcoming projects? I am doing a series right now called Borgen about politics and journalism... I play a very bad guy. I am writing a children book with small novels and this summer I am making a movie. But my greatest moment was in NY in 2003 when Nikolaj and Julie won an Emmy. |
