Interview with Samuli Vauramo (Aaro Harjula) What factors do you consider when choosing what films you will work on? The story is always the most important factor to me when choosing a project. Do I relate to the story and to the character whose story I'm being asked to tell? How did you feel being attached to a project this touching? The film is based on a book and I had read it well before there was a script. I must say I felt very strongly about this story. It's a harsh and very honest story of what happens to people when they live under constant fear of death and tyranny. When I got to read the script I knew that I absolutely had to get the part. Was it difficult to get into character as a military leader? I've served in the military and I'm a bit of a history buff so it was quite easy. I also worked by method acting on this project so I lived outside in an old military tent during the filming. It worked well for this project, but I wouldn't use the same approach for a romantic comedy. What is your fondest memory of working on Tears of April? The day we shot the scenes with the little boy were very hard emotionally, but at the same time there was something very beautiful and delicate about it. When you act with a child you never really know how seriously they are taking it. I struggled with that a bit. Also my last scene where "Aaro" makes his decision was something I won't forget. How was the experience working in The American with George Clooney? Working with George Clooney and director Anton Corbijn was amazing. My part in the film is quite small, but when you get to work with two of your idols, it doesn't really matter. You're just really happy you got to meet them and got a chance to work with them. |
