Jovanotti transformed himself from his early work which combined rap and hip hop to more socially conscious world music and funk. It can easily be said that his career is unlike any other artist. Biography:

Lorenzo Cherubini, also known as Jovanotti (b. 1966 in Rome, Italy) is an Italian singer, considered as the pioneer in rap and hip-hop music in Italy. His family is originally from Cortona, Tuscany. His first hits were hip-hop, rap and disco music Jovanotti progressively became more influenced by funk and world music with some ska influences.

Gino Latino was a name invented in 1988 by Claudio Cecchetto (his producer) used for the first House style songs, including the songs "Yo" and "Welcome". The name was used for three songs released between 1988 and 1989. At the same time, Giacomo Maiolini, owner of Dance Time Records label, has used that name for some DJ Gino songs. Twenty years later, the Gino Latino songs were remixed by several Italian DJs.

Jovanotti has also used the nickname Jeronimo with the song "The Indian". His most famous songs are "A Bad Dream" and "Serenata Rap". As a testament to his popularity, Jovanotti was invited by Luciano Pavarotti to a charity concert in 1996.

On September 6th 2008, he married Francesca Valiani in Cortona, Italy in the church of Santa Maria Nuova. Together, they have a daughter named Teresa born in 1998. Jovanotti dedicated his song "Per te", meaning "For you", to her. It was one of the success of his album Capo Horn (1999).

Trivia:

• Jovanotti's name comes from the plural of the Italian word "giovanotto", meaning a young man.
• Lorenzo Cherubini originally auditioned with a group called I Giovanotti, but the producer wanted only to deal with him in the group. The singer decided to take the name of the Italian-American actor Joe Vanotti which became Jovanotti.
