Julie (Michele Laroque), a youngish forty, lives alone with her six-years-old son. The best part of her time is taken up by her job. One day, on a business trip, she meets Claude (Wladimir Yordanoff), a married father of two. They are devoured by a passion that is all the wilder for occurring later in their lives. After just a few weeks, they abandon everything to live together. Moving far away from Paris, they start a new life over again in and a new house.

But just two short months after settling into their new home, Claude has a terrible accident and falls into a deep coma, obliterating their new adventure together. Claude's abandoned wife is determined to get him back and use the occasion to try and efface Julie's existence.

A painful struggle ensues, a fight against death. Obliteration and the loss of one's self. One step at a time, fighting to return to life, trying to repair the thread of life where it has been broken, rebuilding, and maybe one day returning to the life they had. After fighting for life, it becomes a struggle to just exist.
