The film tells the story of Napoleon Bonaparte’s grandniece, the famous Princess Marie, her friendship and her work with Sigmund Freud, “the father of psychoanalysis”.

Catherine Deneuve, one of the most famous divas of French cinema performed the main roles of this miniseries. Born in family of artists, her father was actor and stand-in while her mother was an actress in the Odeon theatre company. Her older sister, Françoise Dorléac, was famous and had acted in 17 movies when she died precociously in a car accident at 25 years old.

Catherine began to act in Cinema by appearing in Les Collégiennes (1957) and from that moment she never left the movie screen. But the fame came with Luis Buñuel’s classical movie: Belle de Tour (1967). Then, the actress became a phenomenon with the Musical “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” (1964), directed by Jacques Demy, by playing a middle-class romantic woman who fell in love with a soldier but finally married another man she didn’t love. This movie was awarded with the Palme d’or at the Cannes Film Festival, rocketing Catherine to the international scene. Very quickly, she was called to work in Hollywood and received many offers to play relevant roles. She worked with the most important directors of worldwide cinema such as François Truffaut, Roger Vadim, Claude Chabrol and Roman Polanski.

During the twenties, Marie Bonaparte (Catherine Deneuve), Princess of Greece and Denmark, believed in Psychoanalysis. She spent most of her time trying to diffuse Freud’s experiences and theories in France. She was also, in a certain extent, his savior. She snatched him and his family out of the Gestapo’s clutches and helped him to be accepted in France.
