Presentation:

France loves two things: Good art, and a good scandal. The French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette gave her countrymen plenty of both, changing literature across Europe, and shocking the world of early 20th century art with her endless mischief. This month, Eurochannel invites you to witness the salacious lifestyle of France’s most controversial author through four titillating movies.

Colette was a woman who loved only the best, so Eurochannel is showing the crème de la crème of French cinema to tell her story. These four adaptations of her greatest literary works, created by award-winning directors such as Pierre Arditi, Evelyne Bouix, Caroline Cellier, Anny Duperey and Jean Rochefort, depict heroic women thrust into an endless parade of scandalous situations.

In a good story there’s no such thing as boundaries, and The Colete’s Heroines Cycle shows this truth with tales like Julie de Carneilhan, The Duo, The Other Woman and The Ripening Seed, each one a true-to-life testimony about the challenges faced by French women in the beginnings of the 20th century. Colete’s women are brought to vivid life through the passion, creativity, and desire of these wonderful films, and you too can see why Colette’s beloved characters have so profoundly influenced French culture. Tune in this month to explore France’s most secret, lusty tales.

Synopsis:

Michael (Pierre Arditi) and Alice (Evelyn Bouix) seem like the perfect couple. However, after a wild night of adultery, their model relationship becomes a fierce battle of lust and freedom. This adaptation of the Colette’s work, originally published in France in 1934, unveils a most unusual kind of relationship: one founded on a wife’s infidelity.
