Two Women in Paris (Deux femmes à Paris, 2000) Director: Caroline Huppert The stage: Paris, between 1935 and 1945. There, two women know each other. Two women of different roots.
The former, Maya (Romane Bohringer), is a Jewish girl that recently arrived to France from Tunisia, leaving the sun of her country and her mother's memories behind. Her husband, Aldo (Samuel Tasinaje) is a journalist committed to the left.
The latter, Maud (Julie Depardieu), is from Marseille. Her lover, Marcel (Olivier Granier), who is also a member of extreme right-wing groups, has just opened a fashion designer workshop for her.
Both couples live in the same building and everything should separate the two young women. However, each one feels somehow responsible for the other one, and between them, begins a friendship that appears like a spark of hope through the hard times they both face.
Indeed, the war breaks out and Aldo leaves. Maud understands that if she wants to protect Maya and her baby, she will have to keep distance from Marcel.
