A Last Year in 114 Minutes (Un Ultim An în 114 Minute, 2014)
Romania

Director: Daniel Djamo

Presentation:

“Age is a burden,” she says over the phone from her bed, though some may believe that experience is the best teacher. Welcome to a poignant and personal portrait of a woman during her final year in A Last Year in 114 Minutes.

A Last Year in 114 Minutes marks the feature debut of visual artist Daniel Djamo and chronicles the last year in his grandmother's life. This daring, intense and heartbreaking documentary offers a personal journey for both Buni – the senior woman, the director, and the viewers.

With simplistic but gripping videography, Djamo invites viewers to his grandmother’s house as a still camera captures her intimate conversations with the director and the rest of her family either in person or over the phone. Filmed from October 2010 until October 2011, during the final months of grandmother and grandson together, A Last Year in 114 Minutes does not document death, but rather showcases genuine family bonds and the very nature of unconditional affection.

Synopsis:

The diary of Buni’s last year, displaying how she spent her final months alongside her grandson and intimately detailing how she helped raise him when he was a child.
