Amazons is an action comedy directed by Esmé Lammers, a well-known name in her homeland. In the movie – loosely based on a true story -- four mothers from Breda-Noord, in northern Netherlands, are tired of their miserable lives. The ladies decide to rob a bank, and it goes surprisingly smooth. As the loot is immediately spent on back rent, clothes, coke, and a new washing machine, their luck gradually tumbles when one of them falls in love with the detective investigating the bank raid case.

Starring some of the biggest names of Dutch TV and cinema such as Monique van de Ven and Monic Hendrickx and International Emmy Award winner actor Pierre Bokma, Amazons offers a look at the hidden side of the European welfare system.

In Amazons, viewers will feel the anger, impotence, drive, and sheer joy of the four protagonists, who invite us to ask how much of their own potential lies within each of us . . . for the better or for the worse.
