Interview - Anna Franceschini

Casa Verdi (2008)
Italy

Director: Anna Franceschini

Presentation:

Can you have fun in a retirement home? It doesn't sound like the most exciting place on earth but some of its inhabitants live the time of their lives on it. Eurochannel has an all-access pass to a charming place in the heart of Milan where magic takes place in the form of amusing music… Welcome to Casa Verdi.

This introspective documentary goes deep into the happenings and happiness of a retirement home for artists in the verge of poverty. Musicians, dancers, singers, composers, they all gather around their art without the worries and pressure of day-to-day life.

Conceived as an exploration and observation of a rest house for old musicians in Milan, Casa Verdi offers a compiling film archive of the lives hidden in a monument in the center of city and a reflection on a social issue: how to treat elder people with few resources. The documentary is, according to director Anna Franceschini "an experiment on film language, an analysis of one of the most classic forms and way of moving the camera, the travelling."

Deeply poignant, Casa Verdi offers a behind the scenes to meet those forgotten Italian entertainers who still transmit a sparkling passion for life through art.
