Presentation:

Feature-length films are complex; a work of cinematic art requires that countless factors be considered and perfected. Short films, by contrast, represent in many ways a much purer medium of expression. A truly artistic short film is a work of simple, elegant beauty, requiring only a beautiful story and a creative director. However, simple does not mean easy, and only the most gifted cinematographers have the skill to build a thing of beauty in such a small space. To honor their ascetic vision, Eurochannel presents Euroshorts. This time, we turn our attention towards Austria.

Fast Film

Fast Film (Fast Film, 2003)
Austria/ Luxemburg

Synopsis:

The German word for “fast” has multiple meanings. On one hand, it is used to describe speed, frenetic pacing, and lightening speed. On the other, it also means “almost.” Fast Film is both an elegant pun, being almost a film itself, and a thrilling homage to the great action films of Hollywood. This 14 minute story rockets its audience throughout the history of film, from the silent origins to the present-day Hollywood blockbusters, its style whipping through a rapid-fire collection of 65,000 images and shots from over 300 films. The result is both a masterful tribute, and a unique tapestry of excitement. All of this action is set against a simple, but classic action-movie plot: A beautiful woman has been kidnapped, and a man has come to her rescue. Now, stranded behind enemy lines, they must fight their way out of the enemy’s secret headquarters.
