3 Famous Jewelry Heists

Although they make a good story for movies and fiction, these are real crimes with real victims. As we premiere the French thriller Two Bullets, about a jeweler who shoots an assailant during a robbery, we present you with three of the most famous jewelry heists in history.

The Kim Kardashian Robbery
Probably one of the robberies of the highest profiles, this heist became one of the most talked-about robberies in media. In October 2016, while attending Paris Fashion Week, celebrity Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in the apartment where she was staying. Five individuals, dressed as police officers stole $10 million worth of jewelry. The thieves got in her residence by threatening the concierge. Once they accessed Kardashian's room, they held a gun to her head, tying her wrists and legs and wrapping duct tape around her mouth.

After the robbery was announced, several critics expressed skepticism about whether it was staged or not. Days after the robbery, a video was released showing Kardashian immediately after the robbery, as police began conducting their investigation. In the video, she is seen using the phone she had reported stolen, prompting more questions as to whether or not the events were staged.

Graff Diamonds Robbery
One of the most cinematic heists in recent history, the Graff Diamonds robbery took place on 6 August 2009 when two men posing as customers entered the premises of Graff Diamonds in New Bond Street, London and stole jewelry worth nearly 65 million dollars. The robbers used the services of a professional make-up artist to alter their skin tones and their features using latex prosthetics and to be fitted with professional wigs. The robbers were caught shortly after police searched one of the getaway cars abandoned by the robbers.

The Antwerp Diamond Heist
Dubbed the "heist of the century", the Antwerp diamond heist, was by far the largest diamond heist and one of the largest robberies in history. Thieves stole loose diamonds, gold, silver, and other types of jewelry valued at more than 100 million dollars. The robberie took place in Antwerp, Belgium, during the weekend of 15–16 February 2003. Though arrests were made and time was served, most of the diamonds stolen remain unrecovered.
